Water quality degradation often occurs during aquaculture operations. Furthermore, limited water availability also hinders water exchange. One solution is the use of a recirculation system. This system utilizes filters to filter and control water quality. The selection of filter materials can be seen from each material's advantages, so that a combination of different filter materials is expected to optimize water quality efficiently. This study aimed to determine the efficiency effect of a combination of different filter materials, namely zeolite and silica sand, on cultivating tambakan fish fry. The experimental design used a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) consisting of five treatments and three replications, namely P1 (zeolite 25 g L-1 ), P2 (silica sand 25 g L-1 ), P3 (zeolite 5 g L-1 and silica sand 20 g L-1 ), P4 (zeolite 20 g L-1 and silica sand 5 g L-1 ), and P5 (zeolite 12.5 g L-1 and silica sand 12.5 g L-1 ). The study utilized kissing gourami fingerlings (3-4 cm) that were maintained in a recirculation system for 30 days in the Aquaculture Laboratory and Experimental Pond of the Aquaculture Study Program, Fisheries Department, Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Sriwijaya. The results showed that the combination of filter materials significantly affected the parameters of ammonia, nitrite, TDS, turbidity, absolute length, and weight growth, as well as feed efficiency, of kissing gourami fingerlings. All combination treatments were quite efficient in controlling water quality. However, treatment P4 (zeolite 20 g L-1 and silica sand 5 g L-1 ) showed the combination with the best results until the 30th day namely, ammonia 0.0064 mg L-1 , nitrite 0.021 mg L-1 , TDS 267.5 mg L-1 , turbidity 1.81 NTU, supported by length and weight growth, namely 1.16 cm and 0.80 g, feed efficiency 33.16% and 100% survival.
