KANDUNGAN BAHAN KERING, BAHAN ORGANIK DAN PROTEIN KASAR PADA SILASE DENGAN PROPORSI LIMBAH SAYURAN YANG BERBEDA
Cabbage and mustard green waste are potential alternative feed sources. These vegetable wastes are often overlooked, yet they possess adequate nutritional value and can be utilized to improve feed efficiency for livestock. The addition of carrot waste to silage serves as a source of simple sugars and energy, which accelerates the decline in pH and enhances the growth of beneficial fermentative microorganisms, particularly lactic acid bacteria. This study aimed to determine the dry matter, organic matter, and crude protein contents of silage produced with different proportions of vegetable waste. The research was conducted in May–June 2025 at the Experimental Barn of the Animal Science Study Program, Sriwijaya University, followed by feed nutrient analysis at the Nutrition and Animal Feed Laboratory of the same institution. The experimental design used in this study was a completely randomized design (CRD) consisting of four groups and five replications, in which the mean, standard deviation, minimum, and maximum values were observed. The treatments consisted of P0 = 50% cabbage waste + 50% mustard green waste; P1 = 42.5% cabbage waste + 42.5% mustard green waste + 15% carrot waste; P2 = 40% cabbage waste + 40% mustard green waste + 20% carrot waste; and P3 = 37.5% cabbage waste + 37.5% mustard green waste + 25% carrot waste. The variables observed included dry matter, organic matter, and crude protein. The data obtained were analyzed descriptively. The results showed that the mean dry matter ranged from 43.16% to 76.59%, with minimum values between 18.31% and 66.82%, and maximum values between 75.96% and 88.48%. The mean organic matter content ranged from 96.93% to 98.08%, with minimum values between 96.36% and 96.77%, and maximum values between 97.49% and 99.24%. The mean crude protein content ranged from 13.06% to 24.91%, with minimum values between 8.91% and 19.06%, and maximum values between 15.88% and 28.07%. It can be concluded that the silage treatment consisting of cabbage and mustard green waste with the addition of 25% carrot waste yielded relatively higher mean values for dry matter (76.59%), organic matter (98.08%), and crude protein (24.91%).
