The "Merdeka Curriculum" aims to cultivate students abilities in logical and critical thinking. Therefore, this study aims to analyze higher-order thinking skills (HOTS) in solving HOTS-based questions on the topic of Hydrocarbons and Petroleum. A total of 30 students from class XI.1 were selected as the subjects of this study. The research employed a quantitative approach using descriptive data analysis. Eight HOTS-based essay questions were used as the instrument in this study. The results show that 24% of students fell into the high category, 70% into the medium category, 3% into the low category, and 3% into the very low category. Overall, students achieved an average HOTS performance rate of 71.35%, which is classified as a medium category. Keywords: Higher-Order Thinking Skills, HOTS, Hydrocarbons and Petroleum
