THE PERCEPTIONS OF ENGLISH EDUCATION STUDENTS’ DIFFICULTIES IN WRITING THEIR THESES
This study aims to describe and analyze the difficulties experienced by eighth-semester students of the English Education Study Program at Sriwijaya University in writing their undergraduate theses. Using a mixed-methods design, quantitative data were collected through questionnaires from 50 students, while qualitative data were obtained through interviews with 10 participants. The findings revealed that internal factors, particularly psychological and linguistic challenges, were the most dominant difficulties. Students reported anxiety before thesis defense, loss of motivation, and problems with academic vocabulary. Cognitive challenges, such as understanding research methodology and organizing chapters, were also common, while external factors like access to references and supervision delays were less significant. Despite these obstacles, students employed coping strategies such as setting writing targets, using online tools, and consulting peers. Overall, thesis writing difficulties among students were influenced by academic, emotional, and institutional factors.
