PENGARUH PERLAKUAN PANAS HASIL PENGELASAN PADA BAJA ST40 R
The development of technology in the field of construction cannot be separated from the metal joining process, or what is often called welding. This has an important role in engineering and repair or metal repair. When the process of joining the welded metal with steel metal becomes one unit, which means, the strength of the welded metal must be the same as the steel metal used. (Pujo M. & JS, 2008). The main parameter in this study is the change in hardness in the HAZ area, due to the influence of post-welding, with quenching treatment using alum solution. The quenching process is carried out at a temperature of 850 0C. Without any holding time, it is immediately dipped in the concentration of alum solution. This research method uses 4 specimens that are dipped in 4 containers that have been prepared with alum water solution with different percentages of 50%, 75% and 100% and a solution that is not mixed with salt, after which a hardness test is carried out with the VHN Hardness test. From the test results, the hardness value of the specimen without treatment was obtained with an average of 85.81 VHN, the highest hardness value in the quenched specimen was found in the variation of 50% alum water content with an average value of 105.34 VHN. It can be concluded that the quenching process affects the hardness of the specimen, the higher the alum water solution content, the lower the hardness level.
