The Directorate General of Customs and Excise is a state agency that in carrying out its duties and functions plays an important role, as for these duties and functions, among others, protecting citizens from the entry of goods that are considered a threat. The entry of illegal goods or smuggling into a country's territory can threaten the security of citizen security, such as the entry of illegal drugs. The purpose of this research is to find out the efforts of Customs and Excise in dealing with the problem of illegal drugs in Palembang. Researchers used the National Protection theory from Homeland Security. This research method is descriptive qualitative using primary data sources from interviews and secondary from literature studies. The results of this study indicate that the efforts made by Customs and Excise in prosecuting and investigating illegal drugs, such as cooperating with expeditions with countries of origin, conducting patrols, evaluating and analyzing risks and adapting technology such as X-ray machines in checking incoming goods.
