THE UNIVERSITY STUDENTS' PERCEPTIONS ON INSTAGRAM'S TRANSLATION FEATURE IN ENHANCING ENGLISH VOCABULARY LEARNING
This study examined university students’ perceptions of Instagram’s translation feature in enhancing English vocabulary learning. The research addressed two main questions: (1) how students perceive its usefulness and (2) what challenges they face when using it. Using a mixed methods design, data were collected from 29 English Education students at Sriwijaya University through questionnaires and interviews. The results showed mixed perceptions. The highest score appeared in ease of use (77.6%), indicating that students found the feature simple and practical, while perceptions of usefulness (52.6%) and contribution to vocabulary learning (51.1%) were mostly neutral. Challenges included inaccurate translations, incomplete translations, technical issues, and untranslated short captions. In conclusion, Instagram’s translation feature is convenient for quick understanding but should serve only as a supporting tool alongside dictionaries, teacher guidance, and independent learning.
