Background: Oxidative stress occurs when the levels of free radicals and ROS produced are not balanced with antioxidants. One factor that worsens oxidative stress is iron deficiency. Palembang City has anemia cases of 5.3% in 2021, while the coverage of the program for providing Blood Supplement Tablets to pregnant women is 99.3%. Objective: To analyze the relationship between iron intake and oxidative stress levels in pregnant women in Palembang City. Method: This type of research is quantitative research using a cross-sectional approach. The sample in this study consisted of 97 pregnant women in the second trimester and third trimesters who were selected by random sampling. Data on characteristics, exposure to cigarette smoke, and physical activity were obtained through interviews. Data on iron, vitamin C, and vitamin E intake were obtained using a 3x24 hour food recall. Oxidative stress levels were obtained by examining Malondialdehyde (MDA) in blood serum using spectrophotometry. Data were analyzed using univariate, bivariate analysis with chi-square test, independent t-test, and multivariate analysis using multiple logistic regression. Results: In this study, pregnant women had insufficient iron intake by 43.3% and high MDA levels 48.5%. There is a significant relationship between maternal age, occupation, hemoglobin levels, iron intake and physical activity with oxidative stress levels in pregnant women in Palembang City. The dominant factor that influences is occupation after being controlled by other variables (OR=7.439). Conclusion; Counseling, information and education about nutritious intake for pregnant women is needed, such as foods that are high in iron and antioxidant to prevent increased levels of oxidative stress.
