PALEOEKOLOGI FORMASI LEMAU BERDASARKAN PERSEBARAN FOSIL FORAMINIFERA, STUDI KASUS : DAERAH MUARA SIMPUR DAN SEKITARNYA, KECAMATAN ULU TALO, KABUPATEN SELUMA, BENGKULU
Paleoecological research was carried out on the Lemau Formation in the Muara Simpur area and its surroundings, Ulu Talo District, Seluma Regency, Bengkulu Province. The research area is in the Bengkulu Arc Fore Basin. The Lemau Formation is composed of carbonate and non-carbonate rocks which are influenced by tidal activity, including breccia, non-carbonate sandstone, carbonate sandstone, mudstone, calcareous sandstone and limestone. The Lemau Formation is Middle Miocene to Late Miocene in age. Sandstone units, mudstone units and calcareous sandstone units in the Lemau Formation were analyzed further with the aim of determining the ancient environmental conditions in the form of depth, temperature and salinity in the past. The research was carried out using several methods in the form of pre-field activities, field observation activities, data processing, namely laboratory analysis in the form of petrographic analysis and paleontological analysis as well as studio analysis. Petrographic analysis was carried out on three thin section rock samples. Paleontological analysis was also carried out on 6 rock samples to classify some of the fossil content found in the rock samples. Based on the results of the P/B ratio calculation, it was found that the research location falls into the Middle Neritic and Outer Neritic bathymetric zones. After plotting the depositional environment on a graph of the relationship between depth and temperature, it shows that a temperature of 15˚ is a tropical climate temperature with code A. The sampling location on the island of Sumatra, Indonesia, which has a tropical climate, is shown with a Tropical Rain Forest climate with code Af. This is also supported by the abundance of Foraminifera fossil species that characterize climate, which shows that the research location has a warm climate, represented by all the Globigerinoides genera found in the six locations, namely Globigerinoides diminutus, Globigerinoides tribolus, Globigerinoides subquadratus, and Globigerinoides altiaperturus as well as Globigerina venezuelana, and Globoquadrina altispira. Further paleoecological analysis, the research area is interpreted to have marine paleoecology, with the number of fossils dominated by the Sub Order Rotalina group. Based on the diversity index, the research location has a value of 5 - 6, which indicates a shallow marine environment with normal salinity ranging from 30 - 80 ppt.
