IDENTIFIKASI KARANG LUNAK (SOFT CORAL) DAN SPONGE DI PULAU MASPARI, SUMATERA SELATAN
Maspari Island is an island located in the waters of South Sumatra Province, precisely in the southern part of the Bangka Strait with dynamic water conditions influenced by several large rivers from the mainland of South Sumatra which results in high turbidity levels and variations in salinity, DO, and pH. These conditions impact the existence and growth of marine ecosystems such as soft corals, and several other organisms, one of which is sponges. Soft corals are known to produce beneficial bioactive compounds, while sponges also have an important role ecologically and economically as part of the composition of the coral reef ecosystem. This study aims to identify soft corals and sponges. This study was conducted in July 2024 on Maspari Island, South Sumatra Province. Data were collected from three stations using an exploratory purposive sampling method. Based on the identification results, 1 species from 1 family of soft corals (Zoanthus sp.) and 3 species from 3 families of marine sponges (Ceolocarteria singaporensis, Spheciospongia sp., and Clathria sp.) were found. Environmental factors at the three stations have different characteristics, for station 1 Brightness, pH, Current and station 2 Salinity, DO while station 3 only temperature.
