Nutrition is a major public health problem that can affect the development of the world. In addition to macronutrients, micronutrient deficiencies can also lead to nutritional imbalances. Poor micronutrient intakes have an impact on micronutrient status resulting in low micronutrient levels. This is important for breastfeeding mothers because one of the important components in breast milk is iron. Iron deficiency can lead to the risk of iron deficiency and anemia in mothers and children. Uncontrolled anemia can compromise the health of children aged 0-5 years, which in the long run can lead to stunting. Therefore, it is important for breastfeeding mothers to pay attention to their nutritional intake, including iron intake, in order to maintain optimal health and development for the baby. Therefore, this study aimed to determine the relationship between iron intake and serum iron levels in breastfeeding mothers in Musi Rawas Regency. The results of the data were analyzed using cross-sectional and the sample amounted to 55 breastfeeding mothers. There was a significant relationship between iron intake and serum iron levels (p-value = 0.048) in breastfeeding mothers. But there was no relationship between age and serum iron levels (p-value = 0.762) in breastfeeding mothers, there was no relationship between nutritional status and serum iron levels (p-value = 0.276) in breastfeeding mothers, and there was no relationship between parity and serum iron levels (p-value = 0.403) in breastfeeding mothers. This study was expected to be an additional information for mothers in increasing iron intake. It was also recommended for health workers to provide counseling and health promotion to pregnant women and nursing mothers about the importance of iron intake for the body as an effort to prevent iron deficiency.
