PERAN ATLET SEBAGAI AKTOR NON-NEGARA DALAM DIPLOMASI OLAHRAGA: STUDI KASUS ATLET VOLI MEGAWATI HANGESTRI PERTIWI DI LIGA KOREA
In the era of globalization, the role of non-state actors such as Megawati Hangestri Pertiwi who appears in Indonesian sports diplomacy is quite important, because her role is not only limited to achievement, but also reflects cultural identity and national values, while challenging stereotypes of Indonesian, ASEAN, and Muslim communities. This research aims to analyze Megawati's role as a non-state actor in sports diplomacy between Indonesia and South Korea. This research uses the concept of soft power from Joseph Nye and the sports diplomacy mechanism from Nygard and Gates, which includes the dimensions of image building, building a platform for dialogue, trust building, and reconciliation, integration, and anti-racism. The method used is a descriptive qualitative approach with a case study design. Data were obtained from primary and secondary sources. This research shows that Megawati managed to build a positive image of Indonesia and strengthen public trust through her performance in the Korean League, her role as a hijab-wearing Muslim athlete, and her involvement in cultural and promotional events with the KTO, LPDUK, and the media. The findings prove that athletes can be strategic actors in sports diplomacy to strengthen bilateral relations and counter stereotypes through non-traditional channels.
