PENGARUH MUSIK KLASIK TERHADAP TINGKAT KECEMASAN PASIEN EKSTRAKSI GIGI MAHASISWA PROFESI RSKGM SUMATERA SELATAN
Background: Dental anxiety was an emotional response commonly experienced by patients during dental treatment and could affect their cooperation as well as the success of clinical procedures. One of the treatments that most often triggered high anxiety was tooth extraction, particularly when performed by clinical dental students who were still in the learning phase. This condition could cause psychological tension in patients, thus requiring non-pharmacological approach to help reduce anxiety. Classical music therapy was known to have calming effect by influencing central nervous system and maintaining physiological balance. Objective: This study aimed to determine the effect of classical music on the anxiety levels of patients undergoing tooth extraction performed by professional-level dental students at RSKGM Province of South Sumatera. Methods: This was prospective experimental study with pre and post control design involving 44 tooth extraction patients. Respondents were divided into two groups: the treatment group, which received an intervention in the form of playing Gymnopédie No. 1 by Erik Satie through true wireless stereo before the procedure, and the control group, which received no music intervention. Anxiety levels were measured using the Modified Dental Anxiety Scale for Dental Extraction Procedure (MDAS-DEP) questionnaire and analyzed using the Wilcoxon test with SPSS version 26.
