Background: Mental disorders are conditions in which individuals experience significant changes in mood, thoughts, and behavior that can affect social, professional, or daily functioning. Depression, anxiety, schizophrenia, and bipolar disorder are among the common types of mental disorders. One of the symptoms of mental disorders is low self-esteem, where the inability to perform one’s role causes individuals to feel constantly pressured, thereby reducing their quality of life. Objective: To describe the application of positive affirmation therapy as an intervention in mental health nursing care for patients with chronic low self-esteem at Ernaldi Bahar Hospital, South Sumatra Province. Method: This study employed a qualitative descriptive method with a case study approach involving three patients diagnosed with chronic low self-esteem. The positive affirmation therapy was administered after the generalist therapy, which included implementation strategies (SP) 1-4. The therapy was conducted over three days, and the level of self-esteem was measured using the Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale before and after the intervention. Results: The analysis showed an improvement in the patients’ self-esteem after receiving positive affirmation therapy. The first patient’s score increased from 13 (low) to 22 (normal), the second patient’s score from 10 (low) to 16 (normal), and the third patient’s score from 11 (low) to 18 (normal). Conclusion: Positive affirmation therapy helps patients develop a more positive outlook on life, enhances self-confidence, and enables them to recognize their self-worth. The administration of positive affirmation therapy proved effective in improving patients’ self-esteem, as indicated by the significant increase in scores afier the intervention.
