PENGARUH PEER SUPPORT GROUP TERHADAP TINGKAT KECEMASAN PADA KELOMPOK BERISIKO TINGGI DIABETES MELITUS
The prevalence of diabetes mellitus continues to increase in Indonesia. Individuals considered at high risk for diabetes mellitus are likely to experience anxiety, which is an individual response to worry about unpleasant thoughts. Anxiety management in this study used peer support groups. This study aimed to determine the effect of peer support group interventions on anxiety levels in a high-risk group for diabetes mellitus. This study used a pre-experimental design with a one-group pretest-posttest design. The population in this study were female individuals aged 40-59 years in Timbangan Indralaya Village, with a sample size of 58 respondents selected using probability simple random sampling. Data analysis was performed using nonparametric statistical tests using the marginal homogeneity test. The analysis showed a significant difference between the anxiety levels of the high-risk group with diabetes mellitus before and after the peer support group intervention. The p-value obtained from the marginal homogeneity test was 0.000 (p-value ≤ 0.05), indicating an effect of peer support groups on anxiety levels in high-risk groups with diabetes mellitus. Peer support groups can be an effective alternative management strategy for reducing anxiety in high-risk groups with diabetes mellitus and can be used by community nurses as an approach in the Posbindu program to reduce anxiety levels in the face of chronic disease risk.
