Foods that are rich in nutrients are at risk of being contaminated with bacteria such as Escherichia coli that can cause foodborne diseases. Bacteria multiply on food and consume food as a source of energy. Sources of nutrients that can fulfill microbial growth are carbohydrates, proteins, fats, vitamins and minerals.Chicken curry is a food processed with coconut milk which contains high nutrients such as protein and fat. Chicken processed with coconut milk has a greater chance of being contaminated with bacteria and coconut milk also has a neutral to acidic pH which can support the growth of Escherichia coli bacteria. Therefore, testing in the study was conducted to see if there were Escherichia coli bacteria and Total Plate Count (TPC) in chicken curry. The general objective of this study was to analyze the microbial content of Escherichia coli and Total Plate Count in chicken curry sold at the Canteen of Sriwijaya University, IIndralaya campus 2023. This study is a descriptive study using an analytical observational approach. Microbiological testing was carried out at the Laboratory of the Industrial Services Standardization Center (BSPJIP). The population used was chicken curry sold in the canteen of Sriwijaya University, Indralaya Campus. The sample of this study was taken by Proportional random sampling and obtained 6 different faculty canteens that sell chicken curry. The results of the research were that the amount of Escherici coli bacterial contamination was > 3 APM/gram and the Total Plate Count was obtained, namely for samples A – E > 105 colonies/g. The conclusion is that the Escherichia coli test results for all curry chicken samples exceed the maximum limit and the Total Plate Count test results for samples A – E exceed the maximum microbial limit based on SNI 7388:2009.
