Hypertension is one of the most prevalent non communicable diseases and a leading cause of the death worldwide, including in Indonesia.Risk factors include age and genetic, physical activity, dietary pattern, and nutritional status. Data from Basuki Rahmat Public Health Center shows a yearly increase in hypertension cases among individuals aged 45-59. This study aims to determine the relationship between dietary pattern and nutritional status with the incidence of hypertension among pre elderly individuals in the working area of Basuki Rahmat Public Health Center, Palembang City. This research is a quantitative study using a cross sectional study design. The sample was selected by using purposive sampling based on inclusion and exclusion criteria, involving a total of 114 pre elderly individuals. Data analysis, processed with the chi square statistical test at a 95% confidence level. The result showed that 79,8% of participants frequently consumed foods that could trigger hypertension, 78,9% had an overweight nutritional status, and 75,4% experienced stage 2 hypertension. Bivariate analysis indicated a significant relationship between dietary pattern (p= 0,001) and nutritional status (p= 0,028) with the incidence of hypertension among pre elderly individuals in the working area of the Basuki Rahmat Public Health Center, Palembang City. It is recommended that pre elderly individuals limit the consumption of foods that can trigger hypertension, such as MSG based seasoning, fried foods, high fat and high sodiun food (e.g., salted fish, instant noodles, butter, pempek) and increase physical activitysuch as aerobics.
