The elderly are an age group prone to sleep disorders, with the prevalence in Indonesia reaching 67%. Sleep disorders have an impact on physical, psychological, and quality of daily life. One of the non-pharmacological efforts that can be made is the use of jasmine aromatherapy since the linalool content in it has sedative and relaxing effects. This study aimed to find out the effect of jasmine aromatherapy on the quality of sleep of the elderly of the Harapan Kita Social Care Home of Indralaya Ogan Ilir. This study used a quasi-experimental design with a pretest-posttest design. The number of sample was 34 elderly people taken by purposive sampling technique. The instrument used the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI). The intervention was given in the form of giving jasmine aromatherapy every night for seven consecutive days. The data were analyzed using the Wilcoxon test. The results showed that before the intervention, all of the respondents (100%) had poor sleep quality, and after seven days of intervention, the PSQI score indicated that 30 respondents (88.2%) had good sleep quality, and 4 respondents (11.8%) had poor sleep quality. The p value was < 0.000 meaning that there was a significant influence of jasmine aromatherapy on improving the sleep quality of the elderly. The jasmine aromatherapy has been shown to be effective in improving the sleep quality of the elderly and can be used as one of the non-pharmacological interventions in community nursing practice to helpovercome sleep problems in the elderly.
