PENERAPAN SUCTION UNTUK MENCEGAH TERJADINYA VENTILATOR ASSOCIATED PNEUMONIA PADA PASIEN YANG TERPASANG VENTILATOR MEKANIK DI RUANG MUSI 1.1 RSUP DR. M. HOESIN PALEMBANG
Background: VAP remains a serious health problem in patients undergoing intensive care. Ventilator Associated Pneumonia (VAP) is a form of pneumonia that occurs in patients undergoing mechanical ventilation therapy using an endotracheal tube (ETT) for a minimum duration of 48 hours. Suction intervention is known to help reduce secretion production. Objective: To describe nursing care for patients who installed mechanical ventilators and at risk for Ventilator Associated Pneumonia infection. Method: A qualitative descriptive method using a case study approach for nursing care in three managed clients, namely three patients on mechanical ventilators. Results: After nursing care and suction intervention for three consecutive day in theree managed clients, secretion production and a decrease in leukocyte levels decreased. Discussion: Giving Suction is an alternative non-pharmacological therapy that can be used to reduce secretion production in patients on mechanical ventilators.
