PENERAPAN FISIOTERAPI DADA UNTUK MENCEGAH TERJADINYA VENTILATOR ASSOCIATED PNEUMONIA PADA PASIEN YANG TERPASANG VENTILATOR MEKANIK DI RUANG INTENSIF RSUP DR. M. HOESIN PALEMBANG
Background: Critical patients with intubation and prolonged use of ventilators in the intensive care unit are at risk of infection or VAP. Ventilator Associated Pneumonia (VAP) is a state of deterioration of gas exchange in patients having mechanical ventilation. VAP includes infections that usually occur in the intensive care unit, after the patient has been placed on a mechanical ventilator, both endotracheal hose and tracheostomy within 48-72 hours or more after the installation of mechanical ventilation. Therefore, a more comprehensive additional intervention is needed to help mobilize secretions from the distal area of the lungs to the upper airway to make it easier to expel one of which is chest physiotherapy. Objective: To describe the nursing care for the patients who are on mechanical ventilators and at risk of developing Ventilator Associated Pneumonia. Methods: The qualitative descriptive method with a case study approach of nursing care in three managed patients, namely three patients who were fitted with mechanical ventilators. Results: After nursing care and the administration of chest physiotherapy interventions for 3 consecutive days in the three managed clients, there was a decrease in secretion production, a decrease in CPIS scores and a decrease in leukocyte levels. Discussion: Providing chest physiotherapy is one of the non-pharmacological therapy alternatives that can be used to reduce secretion production in patients who are attached to mechanical ventilators
