Background: Patients with ovarian cysts who undergo laparotomy surgery generally experience acute postoperative pain due to tissue damage and inflammatory processes. Untreated acute pain can slow healing, inhibit mobilization, and decrease patient comfort. Non-pharmacological therapies such as hand massage and lavender aromatherapy have been shown to be effective in lowering pain intensity through stimulation of endorphin release and central nervous system relaxation effects. The combination of these two therapies is expected to be able to reduce the level of acute pain and improve the comfort of post-laparotomy ovarian cyst patients. Objective: To apply nursing care to post-laparotomy ovarian cyst patients with acute pain nursing problems through a combination therapy intervention of hand massage and lavender aromatherapy in Room Enim 2 of Dr. Mohammad Hoesin Central General Hospital of Palembang. Methods: This study used a qualitative method with a case study approach on three patients with a medical diagnosis of post-laparotomy ovarian cysts who suffered acute pain. Results: All patients showed a significant decrease in pain intensity after the therapy. The first patient had a decrease in pain from a scale of 7 to 3, the second patient had a decrease in pain from a scale of 7 to 2, while the third patient had a decrease in pain from a scale of 5 to 2. Patients also experienced increased comfort, reduced tension, and better sleep quality after the intervention. Discussion: The application of combination therapy of hand massage and lavender aromatherapy was effective in reducing the acute post-laparotomy pain. This combination therapy produced therapeutic synergies in the form of reduced pain perception, muscle relaxation, and improved blood circulation. Conclusions: The combination therapy of hand massage and lavender aromatherapy was effective in reducing the intensity of acute pain post-laparotomy in ovarian cyst patients.
