FAKTOR RISIKO KEJADIAN EPIBLEPHARON DI SD MAITREYAWIRA DAN SD NEGERI 164 PALEMBANG
Epiblepharon is a congenital eyelid abnormality that is most prevalent in children and characterized by the presence of an additional horizontal crease in the skin and orbicularis muscle. While the condition may resolve spontaneously with the growth of the facial bones, in some cases, severe and persistent symptoms may develop, necessitating intervention. Epidemiological studies have identified the presence of epiblepharon in various populations in East Asia, suggesting a potential for its occurrence in Indonesia. The objective of this study is to ascertain the factors that contribute to the prevalence of epiblepharon in children and to analyze the characteristics of the condition. This study employed an analytic observational technique with a cross-sectional design. The study population consisted of first-grade students from two schools: SD Maitreyawira and SD Negeri 164 Palembang. The total number of participants was 65 children aged between 5 and 7 years. The data were obtained through direct observation and measurement, as well as through the use of secondary data sourced from the schools. The characteristics of epiblepharon and its grading were confirmed through photographic analysis. Moreover, inferential statistical analysis was conducted using the Chi-square test. The incidence of epiblepharon was found to be 50.8%, with bilateral epiblepharon characteristics on the inferior palpebra. The majority of cases were classified as class 1 (65.2%). Epiblepharon is three times higher in Chinese children (95.2%) than in non-Chinese children. The statistical test showed a significant link between ethnicity and epiblepharon (p = 0.001). There was no link with age, gender, or BMI (p > 0.05). Keywords: Epiblepharon, eyelid abnormalities, risk factors, prevalence, Chi-Square
