The Banyuasin River Estuary is formed by the confluence of two rivers, the Banyuasin and Lalan Rivers, located in South Sumatra Province. This estuarine area also serves as a discharge site for industrial and domestic waste and is influenced by various human activities in the surrounding area. This study aims to analyze the sediment characteristics and organic carbon content in the waters of the Banyuasin River Estuary. The research was conducted in October 2024 by collecting sediment samples at 10 stations, 6 using sediment coring and 4 using a Peterson grab sampler. The data analysis included environmental parameters, grain size distribution, mean size, sorting, skewness, kurtosis, and organic carbon content. The results showed that the sediments were dominated by clay and sandy clay, with the mean size mostly classified as very fine silt. Sorting was categorized as very well sorted, skewness indicated a strong tendency toward coarse particles, and kurtosis was predominantly classified as very platykurtic. The highest organic carbon content was found at Station 8 at a depth of 31–45 cm, with a value of 24.75%, while the lowest was found at Station 9 in the bottom sediment, with a value of 5.41%. The relationship between substrate type and organic carbon content showed a low correlation. The coefficient of determination for the sand fraction was y = -0.4297x + 29.311 (R² = 0.2402), for the silt fraction y = -0.6357x + 26.054 (R² = 0.0828), and for the clay fraction y = 0.3582x - 4.7071 (R² = 0.2436). The weak relationship between sediment fractions and organic carbon content in the Banyuasin River Estuary may be attributed to the physical characteristics of the sediment, which play a significant role in carbon storage
