UJI EFEKTIVITAS EKSTRAK AIR DAUN KENIKIR (COSMOS CAUDATUS) TERHADAP PENURUNAN KADAR GLUKOSA DARAH TIKUS WISTAR MODEL DIABETES YANG DIINDUKSI ALOKSAN
Diabetes mellitus is a chronic disease characterized by elevated blood glucose levels due to the pancreas not being able to produce insulin or when the body cannot use insulin properly. The use of antidiabetic drugs has many side effects, including gastrointestinal disorders, weight gain, and hypoglycemia. Therefore, the search for alternative antidiabetics from natural sources is important. One of the potential plants is kenikir (Cosmos caudatus) leaves. This study aims to determine the effectiveness of the administering of water extract of kenikir leaves (Cosmos caudatus) on reducing blood glucose levels of alloxan-induced diabetic wistar rats. An in vivo experimental research was carried out in June–August 2024 at Animal House, Biochemistry Laboratory and Biotechnology Laboratory, Faculty of Medicine, Sriwijaya University. Male wistar rats aged 2–3 monthss with body weight 200–300 grams were 30 divided into 6 treatment groups, namely nondiabetic control, 0.25% CMC control, glibenclamide control, 25% EADK, 50% EADK, and 100% EADK with each group containing 5 Wistar rats. Each group was injected with alloxan intraperitoneally at a dose of 150 mg/kgBW single dose, then treated according to the group. Data were analyzed by paired t test, independent t test, and PostHoc Test on SPSS Statistic 26. Data on blood glucose levels of rats are homogeneous. The administration of water extract of kenikir leaves at concentrations of 25% and 50% in diabetic Wistar rats can reduce the average blood glucose levels. The lowest blood glucose level was shown in the group of rats given 50% concentration of water extract of kenikir leaves.
