ANALISIS KEBUTUHAN KAPUR TOHOR GUNA MEMENUHI pH BAKU MUTU LINGKUNGAN AIR ASAM TAMBANG DI KPL N1 PIT UTARA PT BANYAN KOALINDO LESTARI MUSI RAWAS UTARA SUMATERA SELATAN
Coal mining activities at the northern pit of PT Banyan Koalindo Lestari utilize an open-pit mining system (surface mining). This study analyses the requirement for quicklime (CaO) in neutralizing acid mine drainage (AMD) in the Sedimentation Pond N1 at the northern pit of PT Banyan Koalindo Lestari, Musi Rawas Utara, South Sumatra. Acid mine drainage, formed through the oxidation of sulphide minerals, exhibits low pH levels that pose significant environmental risk. Therefore, determining the optimal quicklime dosage to achieve a pH within the environmental quality standard range (6-9), as mandated by South Sumatra Governor Regulation No. 8 of 2012, is crucial. An experimental method was employed by observing pH changes after quicklime addition to AMD samples in a laboratory, with dosage of 0.1 gr/L effectively increased the AMD samples in a laboratory, with dosage variations ranging from 0.04 to 0.1 g/L. The result indicated that a dosage of 0.1 g/L effectively increased the AMD pH from 3-4 to the desired range. In field applications, quicklime was applied hourly in proportion to the continuous water flow entering the sedimentation pond at a rate of 0.239 m3/s, resulting in a lime requirement of 86.04 kg/hour. This study concludes that hourly application of quicklime is effective in stabilizing AMD pH levels in accordance with environmental standards.
