ANALISIS SIFAT FISIK DAN MEKANIK PISAU HASIL IKM PANDAI BESI DI DESA TANJUNG PINANG.
Tanjung Pinang Village in Ogan Ilir Regency is known for its blacksmithing tradition, particularly in the production of kitchen knives. To remain competitive, improvements in the physical and mechanical properties of the knives are essential. This study examines the effects of heat treatment processes, such as annealing and water quenching, on the properties of recycled leaf spring steel used for knife production. The hardness test results showed that the recycled leaf spring steel specimens experienced a decrease in hardness values after undergoing the annealing process. The average hardness before annealing was 450.576 HV, which decreased to 217.794 HV after annealing. Knives that did not undergo the annealing process exhibited higher hardness compared to annealed knives. Non-annealed knives had an average hardness of 653.325 HV with a maximum value of 898.236 HV, while annealed knives had an average hardness of 526.704 HV with a maximum value of 838.672 HV. Knives that underwent the annealing process displayed a microstructure characterized by fine ferrite grains evenly distributed and pearlite areas appearing as dark regions. This structure indicates that the steel underwent appropriate heat treatment, resulting in a homogeneous, uniform, and tougher material. Based on observations using a Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM), the microstructural characteristics of annealed leaf spring steel knives, using fractured knife tip samples, showed that the fracture surface was dominated by dimple patterns, indicating ductile fracture properties.
