GAMBARAN PROFIL STATUS BESI PADA PASIEN ANEMIA MIKROSITIK HIPOKROM DI RSUP DR MOHAMMAD HOESIN PALEMBANG PERIODE JANUARI - JUNI 2024
Backgrounds: Hypochromic microcytic anemia is a type of anemia in which circulating red blood cells are smaller than normal. An accurate description and understanding of iron status in these patients is essential to determine the appropriate therapy for hypochromic microcytic anemia. This study aims to describe iron status in hypochromic microcytic anemia patients at Dr. Mohammad Hoesin Hospital, Palembang, January - June 2024. Method: This study used a retrospective descriptive design with secondary data from medical records of patients undergoing mitral valve surgery. The variables studied included age, gender, Hb values, MCV, MCH, MCHC, and iron status including serum iron, serum ferritin, TIBC, and transferrin saturation. Data were analyzed descriptively using frequency distribution. Result: A total of 101 patients with hypochromic microcytic anemia, the majority of patients were under 45 years old (42.6%), with women being more dominant (55.4%). A total of 76 patients were patients with functional iron deficiency (75.2%). Based on the primary disease, the highest number of patients were diagnosed with carcinoma (31.7%), followed by CKD patients (27.7%). Conclusion: Hypochromic microcytic anemia is more dominant in adult patients, with women being more dominant. With the majority of patients with anemia of chronic disease, it is also indicated by more patients with functional iron deficiency. This study is expected to be the basis for developing treatment strategies related to hypochromic microcytic anemia in Indonesia..
