ANALISIS FRAMING “JUNGKIR BALIK RAJA JAWA” DALAM PEMBERITAAN MAJALAH TEMPO EDISI 26 AGUSTUS – 1 SEPTEMBER 2024
Framing analysis is a research method used to understand how the media constructs and presents issues. This study aims to analyze the framing of Tempo Magazine’s 26 August–1 September 2024 edition with its cover story Jungkir Balik Raja Jawa in reporting national political dynamics ahead of the 2024 General Election. This research employs a qualitative descriptive approach using Robert N. Entman’s framing model, which includes four elements: defining problems, diagnosing causes, making moral judgments, and suggesting remedies. The data were obtained from the cover story of Tempo Magazine and analyzed in depth. The findings reveal that Tempo consistently frames President Joko Widodo as a dominant actor who excessively consolidates power, while the grand coalition is portrayed as a threat to democratic balance. The Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) is positioned as the sole opposition, whereas civil society is depicted as the last stronghold of democracy. These findings indicate that Tempo’s framing emphasizes criticism of elite political practices that undermine the system of checks and balances, while also highlighting the crucial role of opposition and public participation in safeguarding the quality of democracy in Indonesia.
