Assistance during childbirth by healthcare workers plays an important role in efforts to reduce maternal and infant mortality rates, as it can help identify emergencies during the childbirth process. Data from Puskesmas Palemraya shows the percentage of childbirth assistance by health workers in 2022 was 71.1%, 87.36% in 2023, and decreased again to 82.91% in 2024, while the target achievement is 100%. The aim of this research is to analyze the role of health workers in efforts to increase the coverage of childbirth assistance in the working area of Puskesmas Palemraya. This study uses a qualitative approach with data collection thru in-depth interviews, document review, and observation involving 11 research informants. The research results show that the role of health workers in the working area of Puskesmas Palemraya as customers, communicators, motivators, facilitators, and counselors has not yet been optimal. The challenges faced include the fact that Palemraya Village no longer assists with childbirth due to the unavailability of a polindes building, supporting facilities and infrastructure for childbirth, the continued practice of childbirth by traditional birth attendants in Palemraya Village, and the presence of pregnant women who reside outside the working area. Based on the results of this study, the role of health workers is very important in increasing the coverage of childbirth assistance, although there are still various obstacles in the implementation of their duties. Suggestions for the working area of Puskesmas Palemraya include procuring a sufficient number of delivery assistants, supporting facilities and infrastructure for childbirth, and building a village health post in villages that do not have such facilities. Additionally, it is recommended to establish partnerships with traditional birth attendants and provide education to pregnant women and their families to manage the transfer of residence in the family card before childbirth.
