PERANCANGAN SISTEM BACKWASH OTOMATIS PADA FILTER AIR PIPA PVC MENGGUNAKAN WATER PRESSURE SENSOR
ABSTRACT Clean water is a vital human necessity, and in many cases, the lack of clean water becomes a major issue. To address this, water filters are used to make water suitable for use. However, over time, the filter’s performance may decline due to clogging in the filter media, which leads to increased pressure. The filter cleaning process, or backwashing, is commonly performed manually, which is inefficient, time-consuming, and can reduce filtration performance if not done regularly. The main purpose of designing an automatic backwash system using a PVC pipe-based water filter is to maintain the cleanliness of the filter media automatically and routinely without user intervention. This system operates by reading water pressure through a pressure sensor. When the sensor detects a 50% increase in pressure above the set threshold, it identifies the filter as clogged. The Arduino Uno microcontroller then activates a relay to open a solenoid valve, initiating the backwash process automatically until the backwashing criteria are met. Research results show that the average error of the pressure sensor is only 0.92%, the error in flow rate reduction based on pressure is 4%, the error during backwash testing based on pressure and flow rate is 0.94%, and the error in the final system pressure test after backwashing is 3.51%. These error levels are considered low and do not significantly affect the system's performance. Therefore, the automatic backwash system is proven to be effective in maintaining filter performance, efficient in water usage, and beneficial in improving water quality and ease of maintenance. Consequently, this system supports more sustainable clean water management.
