This thesis is entitled “Legal Analysis of the 1974 Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) Box on the Ownership and Management of the Ashmore Islands in Review of the International Law of the Sea”. How is the legal position of the 1974 BOX MoU in terms of the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS) related to the ownership and management of the Ashmore islands, 2. How is the implementation of the 1974 BOX MoU on the ownership and management of the Ashmore islands, 3. How are the government's efforts to effectively implement the 1974 BOX MoU in accordance with the principles of international law. This research uses the Statue Approach, Case Approach, and Historical Approach. The results of this study indicate that the unclear legal position of the 1974 BOX MoU on the ownership and management of the Ashmore islands is very visible in its implementation in the form of many repressive actions of Australia against Indonesian fishermen, the implementation of the 1974 BOX MoU regarding the ownership of the Ashmore Islands has a conflict of unilateral claims to the Ashmore islands from the Indonesian border community is an important problem for Indonesian fishermen, and efforts that should be made by the government in implementing the 1974 BOX MoU effectively in accordance with the principles of international law in the form of initiating to form or make an agreement to introduce the Ashmore islands.
