ANALISIS PERFORMA BAHAN BAKAR THORIUM NITRIDE (ThN) DENGAN VARIASI ENRICHMENT URANIUM-233 PADA GAS-COOLED FAST REACTOR (GFR) 500 MWTH MENGGUNAKAN OPENMC
This study aims to analyze the performance of thorium nitride (ThN) fuel with varying uranium-233 enrichments in the core of a Gas-Cooled Fast Reactor (GFR) using OpenMC simulations. Burn-up calculations were performed over a period of 10 years with enrichment levels ranging from 0 to 12. The results show that the k-infinite value tends to increase at enrichments between 0–6, although it remains subcritical, while enrichments of 8–12 maintain stable values in a supercritical state. An enrichment level of 12 uranium-233 is identified as the optimal option, achieving an average effective multiplication factor (k-effective) of 1.0659 and an excess reactivity of 6.02. Furthermore, this enrichment variation exhibits a consistent increase in the conversion ratio each year, indicating higher reactor efficiency in maximizing fuel utilization.
