GAMBARAN PENGETAHUAN PASIEN DIABETES MELITUS TIPE II TENTANG HIPOGLIKEMIA DAN KRISIS HIPERGLIKEMIA
Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a life-threatening chronic disease. Death due to hypoglycemia and hyperglycemic crisis can occur if patients lack adequate knowledge. This study aims to determine the overview of type 2 diabetes mellitus patients' knowledge about hypoglycemia and hyperglycemic crisis. The method used in this study was quantitative with a descriptive analytical design and a survey approach. The population in this study were 852 type 2 diabetes mellitus patients who had received treatment at the 4 Ulu Community Health Center in Palembang. Sampling used an accidental sampling technique with 69 respondents. The results showed that 66 respondents (95.7%) had poor knowledge about hypoglycemia and hyperglycemic crisis, 2 respondents (2.9%) had sufficients knowledge, and 1 respondent (1.4%) had good knowledge. Type 2 DM patients with poor knowledge are vulnerable to poor health behaviours, which put them at risk of developing DM complications.
