HUBUNGAN KONSUMSI KOPI DAN AKTIVITAS FISIK TERHADAP KEJADIAN SINDROMA METABOLIK PADA NELAYAN DEWASA MUDA DI PANGKALPINANG
Background: Coffee consumption among young adult fishermen in Pangkalpinang is a long-standing habit to maintain stamina during fishing activities. High-caffeine coffee, sometimes with sweeteners, is often consumed alongside intense physical activity, potentially affecting metabolic balance and metabolic syndrome risk. Objective: To examine coffee consumption patterns, physical activity levels, and their association with metabolic syndrome among young adult fishermen. Methods: A cross-sectional study of 88 fishermen aged 18–40 years was conducted using SQ-FFQ and GPAQ questionnaires, with measurements of waist circumference, blood pressure, triglycerides, HDL cholesterol, and fasting glucose. Data were analyzed using Chi-square/Fisher’s Exact tests and logistic regression. Results: Most participants had moderate coffee intake (high-caffeine types) and high physical activity. Metabolic syndrome prevalence was 25%. Added sweeteners were significantly associated with fasting glucose (p = 0.028), and coffee consumption level with metabolic syndrome (p = 0.024). BMI and sweetener use were positively associated with metabolic syndrome, while side food consumption with coffee showed a negative association (OR = 0.030; p = 0.020). Conclusion: Coffee consumption level, sweetener use, and BMI were associated with metabolic syndrome in young adult fishermen, while high physical activity tended to be protective. Lifestyle interventions and further dietary pattern analysis are recommended. Keywords: Coffee Consumption Pattern, Physical Activity, Metabolic Syndrome, Young Adult Fieshermen
