ADAPTASI BUDAYA MASYARAKAT MULTIKULTURAL DALAM MENJAGA KEHARMONISASI SOSIAL DI DESA TUGU HARUM, BELITANG MADANG RAYA, KABUPATEN OGAN KOMERING ULU TIMUR
This study examined the process of cross-cultural adaptation within the multicultural community of Tugu Harum Village, Belitang Madang Raya Subdistrict, Ogan Komering Ulu Timur Regency. The cultural diversity between the Javanese, Komering, and Ogan ethnic groups in one area required effective intercultural communication to maintain social harmony. The purpose of this research was to understand how the community underwent cultural adaptation based on Young Yun Kim’s Integrative Theory of Cross-Cultural Adaptation. A qualitative method was employed, using in-depth interviews, observations, and documentation. The findings revealed that the adaptation process occurred in three stages: stress, adaptation, and growth. It was concluded that effective intercultural communication contributed significantly to building social cohesion and reducing the potential for conflict. Tugu Harum Village served as a successful model of local-level cross-cultural adaptation that could be replicated in other multicultural communities.Keywords: intercultural communication, cultural adaptation, multicultural society, social harmony, Tugu Harum Village
