PT Muara Alam Sejahtera is a coal mining company located in Lahat Regency, South Sumatra, holding a Mining Business Permit (IUP) covering an area of 1,745 hectares. In conducting overburden dumping activities, one of the methods employed by PT Muara Alam Sejahtera is out-pit dumping. A key issue faced is ensuring that the design of the East OPD (Out-Pit Dump) disposal area remains safe, despite limited space for accommodating the overburden to be excavated. The advancement of mining activities in Pit Alam 1-3 may lead to a decrease in slope stability as the volume of dumped material increases. In-situ testing was conducted by drilling in the East OPD disposal area using the Standard Penetration Test (SPT). Laboratory testing was carried out at Tectona Mitra Utama Laboratory to obtain the material property values. Slope stability analysis was performed using the Morgenstern-Price method, implemented through Rocscience Slide v6.0 software, with the disposal slope modeled using Minescape v5.7. The resulting safety factors for cross-sections 18, 19B, and 21 in the East OPD disposal slope design were 1.065, 0.985, and 0.623, respectively. These safety factor results indicate that certain cross-sections within the disposal area fall below the threshold set by the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources Regulation No.1827 (minimum safety factor ≥ 1). Consequently, improvements were made by modifying the slope geometry, which involved shifting the crest line backward and adjusting the bench width of the disposal area to achieve a safe safety factor value. Based on the redesigned disposal analysis, an increase in safety factor values was obtained for each cross-section: cross-section 18 reached a safety factor of 1.134; cross-section 19B reached 1.057; and cross-section 21 reached 1.136.
