PERAN SELF-ESTEEM TERHADAP SCHADENFREUDE PADA SUPORTER MANCHESTER UNITED DI INDONESIA
This study aims to examine the role of self-esteem in schadenfreude among Manchester United supporters in Indonesia. The hypothesis proposed in this research is that self-esteem plays a role in schadenfreude. The population in this study consists of Manchester United supporters in Indonesia. A total of 317 respondents participated in the main study, along with 60 respondents for the pilot test, selected using purposive sampling. The measurement instruments refer to the dimensions of schadenfreude developed by Smith and van Dijk (2018), with a reliability coefficient of 0.924, and aspects of self-esteem based on Coopersmith’s (1967) theory, with a reliability coefficient of 0.953. Data analysis was conducted using simple linear regression. The results showed a significance value of 0.003 (p < 0.05) with an R Square value of 0.026, indicating that self-esteem has a significant role in schadenfreude, with an effective contribution of 2.6%. These findings support the research hypothesis and suggest that self-esteem contributes to a reduction in schadenfreude among Manchester United supporters in Indonesia.
