KONDISI TUTUPAN TERUMBU KARANG TIPE HARD CORAL(SCLERACTINIA)DI PERAIRAN PULAU MASPARI
Maspari Island, the only island located in the middle of the sea owned by South Sumatra Province. Maspari Island has a variety of ecosystems in it, one of which is the coral reef ecosystem. Coral reefs on Maspari Island are found with Hard Coral and Soft Coral types. This study aims to determine water quality, hard coral cover conditions, and the relationship between hard coral cover and water parameters on Maspari Island. This research was conducted in July 2024 on Maspari Island, Ogan Komering Ilir Regency, South Sumatra Province, using the Underwater Photo Transect (UPT) and Line Intercept Transect (LIT) methods to determine the value of coral reef cover. Coral reef cover data were taken in the form of photos using a 58 x 44 cm quadrant frame and the calculation of coral lifeforms that passed along the transect line. The results showed that the hard coral cover on Maspari Island was in the damaged category with a live coral cover value of 0.42%, dead coral of 32%, and other cover of 69.6%. The only living coral species was found with the type of coral massive. Brightness is the only parameter that is not suitable for coral reef life, due to the murky waters of Maspari Island so that sunlight penetration cannot penetrate the waters that interfere with the photosynthesis process on coral reefs.
