ANALISA PALEOBATIMETRI DAN PALEOEKOLOGI PADA FORMASI TALANG AKAR DAN FORMASI GUMAI DAERAH MUARACAWANG KABUPATEN LAHAT SUMATERA SELATAN
This study aims to analyze the paleobathymetry, paleoclimate, and paleoecology based on the distribution of foraminiferal fossils in the Talang Akar and Gumai Formations in the Muara Cawang area, Lahat Regency, South Sumatra. The research was conducted along the Talang Sawah River section with six observation points. The Talang Akar Formation consists of carbonate sandstone deposited during a regressive phase in the Middle Miocene, while the Gumai Formation comprises carbonate claystone deposited during a transgressive phase from the Middle to Late Miocene. The methods used include quantitative analysis of planktonic and benthic foraminifera to interpret sea surface temperature and paleoclimate, the plankton/benthos (P/B) ratio to determine the bathymetric environment, and the triangular plot approach for paleoecological reconstruction. The results indicate depositional environments ranging from outer neritic to upper bathyal zones, with sea temperatures ranging between 12°C and 18°C, reflecting a tropical to warm subtropical paleoclimate during deposition. The reconstructed paleoecology shows a dominance of lagoon to shallow marine environments that supported the development of microscopic marine organisms. These findings provide valuable insights into the ancient geological conditions of the South Sumatra Basin.
