KARAKTERISTIK PASIEN GANGREN DIABETIKUM PADA PASIEN DIABETES MELLITUS TIPE 2 DI RSUP DR. MOHAMMAD HOESIN PALEMBANG PERIODE JANUARI 2022 – DESEMBER 2022
Background: Diabetes mellitus is a chronic metabolic disease characterized by chronic hyperglycemia due to impaired insulin secretion or action. Diabetic gangrene is a common complication in patients with diabetes mellitus, which is an advanced condition of diabetic foot ulcers. Diabetic gangrene results from a combination of peripheral neuropathy, ischemia due to peripheral vascular disease, and infection. The prevalence of diabetes mellitus patients in Indonesia, which continues to increase every year, is directly proportional to the incidence of diabetic gangrene patients in Indonesia. Therefore, understanding the characteristics of patients who experience diabetic gangrene is important to support effective prevention and treatment strategies. This study aims to determine the characteristics of diabetic gangrene patients at Dr. Mohammad Hoesin Hospital Palembang, including sociodemographic characteristics, body mass index, blood sugar levels, wound grade, comorbid history, and smoking history of patients. Methods: This study used descriptive observational research by observing secondary data, namely medical records of diabetes mellitus patients with diabetic gangrene complications who were hospitalized at Dr. Mohammad Hoesin Palembang Hospital January 2022 - December 2022. Results: 70 patient medical records used in this study had sociodemographic characteristics more in women (57.14%), age group 40-60 years (57.1%), and high school education level (65.7%). The most patients who experienced diabetic gangrene were patients with normal body mass index (51.42%), blood sugar levels > 200 mg/dl (54.28%), Wagner wound grade 3 (37.14%), had a history of comorbid hypertension (60%), and had no history of smoking (95.7%). Conclusion: Patients with diabetic gangrene who were hospitalized at Dr. Mohammad Hoesin Palembang Hospital from January to December 2022 were predominantly female, aged 40-60 years with high school education level, normal body mass index, blood sugar levels >200 mg/dl, Wagner wound grade 3, had a history of comorbid hypertension, and had no history of smoking.
