PERANCANGAN SEKOLAH LUAR BIASA-A PANTI REHABILITASI PENYANDANG TUNANETRA DI PALEMBANG DENGAN PENDEKATAN MULTISENSORI
Indonesia has approximately 4 million visually impaired individuals, yet adequate educational and rehabilitation facilities remain limited, especially in Palembang. Blind children face orientation and mobility challenges, requiring environments that support non-visual sensory development. This design aims to create a Type-A Special School (SLB-A) and rehabilitation center for the blind using a multisensory approach. Many existing schools do not fully accommodate the needs of the blind in terms of accessibility, spatial navigation, and safety. Thus, a multisensory strategy is employed to create spaces recognizable through hearing, smell, and touch. The site is organized by zoning educational levels and supporting activities, with circulation patterns that are clear and integrated. The architectural concept combines texture, natural lighting, aromatic plants, and spatial rhythm. Buildings are single-story with simple reinforced concrete portal structures and sloped roofs utilized as green roofs. Utility systems include low-vision-friendly lighting, environmentally friendly drainage, and sound-oriented acoustic design.
