REDESAIN PERPUSTAKAAN UMUM KOTA PANGKALPINANG
Indonesia is one of the countries with very low reading interest, which is ranked 60th out of 61 countries based on research from Central Connecticut State University. The low reading interest of the society is influenced by several factors, some of them are educational facilities that have not been distributed well and the lack of quality from educational facilities, which is the library. Based on its fiinction for reading and information, The Pangkalpinang City Public Library does not have enough facilities yet, such as the audiovisual collection that cannot be used optimally, the need to access data via the internet has not been facilitated properly, and the spatial arrangement is not well arranged, so that visitors activities in the library are not optimal. With all these problems, it is hoped that through the redesign stage it can make the Pangkalpinang City Public Library a more advanced, varied, and modem library, both functionally and visually. Redesign of the Public Library of Pangkalpinang City applies the concept of contemporary modem architecture by using exposed material, prioritizing space flexibility, and today’s technology. The application of the concept is expected to be able to change the identity and character of the library that seems formal, rigid, and boring, to become a modem and fun public library, but still maintain the image of local culture.
