ANALISIS MEDICAL TOURISM WARGA NEGARA INDONESIA TERHADAP DEVISA MALAYSIA
This study aims to analyze the influence of the number of Indonesian citizens (WNI) engaging in medical tourism to Malaysia and the average costs incurred on Malaysia's foreign exchange earnings. The growing flow of Indonesian patients to Malaysia is driven by various factors such as high-quality healthcare services, geographical proximity, as well as cost and time efficiency, which significantly stimulate cross-border economic activity. This research employs the Error Correction Model (ECM) to identify both short-term and long-term relationships between the examined variables. The results indicate that both the number of Indonesian medical tourists and the average medical expenses have a positive and significant impact on Malaysia's foreign exchange earnings in the short and long run. These findings highlight Indonesia's dependency on foreign healthcare services and underscore the strategic role of the medical tourism sector in boosting Malaysia’s economic growth. Therefore, the results of this study are expected to serve as a reference for the Indonesian government in formulating policies to enhance the competitiveness of the national healthcare sector, reduce capital outflows, and develop a sustainable domestic medical tourism ecosystem.
