REPRESENTASI NILAI-NILAI MISOGINI DALAM FILM HOLY SPIDER KARYA ALI ABBASI
Film is one of the mass communication media products capable of representing specific cultural values through its narrative. Recognizing film as a popular medium in contemporary society, the cultural perspectives portrayed within it become a crucial issue. Holy Spider is a film based on the true story of the murder of 16 sex workers that occurred in Iran between 2000 and 2001. As a film that centers on the dynamics of a misogynistic society, Holy Spider is considered to represent misogynistic values throughout its storyline. The aim of this study is to examine how the culture of misogyny is represented in Holy Spider, using Roland Barthes’ semiotic analysis to deconstruct the meanings conveyed in the film. The analysis reveals that Holy Spider portrays misogynistic values in various forms, including violence, marginalization, sexual objectification, subordination, negative stereotyping, and femicide. These misogynistic values are depicted through the suffering of female characters who are trapped in systemic and constructed problems, such as government regulations that ignore women's rights and the conservative mindset of society in responding to social conflicts involving women.
