PENGARUH TERAPI BEKAM KERING TERHADAP TEKANAN DARAH PADA PASIEN HIPERTENSI WANITA USIA MENOPAUSE

Hypertension is a non-communicable disease that is a leading cause of premature death in the world. The female hormone estrogen can act as cardioprotective to prevent atherosclerosis process. In menopausal women, decreased estrogen can contribute up to 65% to the cause of hypertension. One non-pharmacological therapy to lower high blood pressure is dry cupping therapy. Dry cupping therapy can cause capillary and arteriolar dilation, thereby lowering blood pressure. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of dry cupping therapy on blood pressure. This study design was a quasi-experimental with a non-equivalent control group design approach. The sample in this study were 32 people taken using a purposive sampling technique. The results of statistical analysis using paired t-test showed that there was significant difference in systolic and diastolic blood pressure before and after dry cupping therapy in the intervention group with a p-value of 0.000 while in the control group obtained a p-value of 0.042 for systolic and a p-value of 0.030 for diastolic. The results of the independent sample t-test obtained a p-value of systolic blood pressure 0.05. So the results of this study showed that dry cupping therapy has a significant effect on systolic blood pressure but does not have a significant effect on diastolic blood pressure. This is due to two mechanisms that occur, including: 1) Vasodilation effect; due to increased NO synthase, decreased activity of the angiotensin-renin system, improved blood vessel microcirculation by helping cholesterol excretion and 2) Relaxation of blood vessels; Due to the secretion of endorphins hormones, so it can help lower blood pressure, similar to the role of estrogen.
