PENGARUH PEMBERIAN HORMON ANDROGEN TERHADAP VOLUME, WARNA DAN pH PADA KUALITAS SPERMA KAMBING PERANAKAN ETAWA (Capra aegagrus hircus)
Goats are small ruminant livestock that also play a role in meeting the animal protein needs of the community. The community's demand for meat increases every year, in line with the increase in goat production in Indonesia. In efforts to enhance productivity and meet the needs of the goat population, the quality of Etawa crossbred goat semen is a crucial aspect. This semen quality can be improved, even enhanced, through the use of reproductive technologies, one of which is hormone injection. One hormone that plays a role in stimulating growth is the steroid hormone, specifically androgen. The administration of androgen hormones can influence livestock performance through increased muscle growth, which occurs due to more intensive stimulation of protein synthesis in the body. The aim of this study is to investigate the effects of androgen hormone administration on volume, color, and pH in the quality of Etawa crossbred goat semen (Capra aegagrus hircus). The study was conducted from October to December 2024 at Pak Handoko's Goat Farm in Sindang Sari Village, Lempuing Subdistrict, Ogan Komering Ilir District. The study used six goats, with three goats as the control group and three goats as the hormone injection group (Boldemax AP). The parameters observed were average volume, color, and pH. The data were analyzed and described descriptively. The results showed that the average sperm volume of P0 goats was 1.14±0.43 ml, while that of P1 goats was 0.86±0.17 ml. The average color of the semen from goats P0 and P1 was milky white, and the average pH of the semen from goats P0 and P1 was around 6. Goats injected with androgen hormones did not experience changes in semen volume, color, and pH. Based on the results obtained in this study, it was found that the administration of androgen hormones did not affect the characteristics of PE goat semen, such as volume, color, and pH. The average semen volume in the group injected with hormones was lower (0.86 ml) compared to the control group (1.14 ml). The semen color in both groups remained milky white, and the average pH of both was the same, at 6.
