PENGARUH PERLAKUAN AWAL LIMBAH PLASTIK POLYPROPYLENE SEBAGAI PENGGANTI SEBAGIAN PASIR TERHADAP KUAT TEKAN DAN KUAT TARIK BELAH BETON
Indonesia is the second-largest waste-producing country after China, with 18% of the waste consisting of plastic. One of the most commonly found types of plastic is polypropylene (PP), which is lightweight, chemically resistant, and thermoplastic in nature. One way to address the plastic waste problem is by utilizing it in concrete mixtures. This study aims to analyze the effect of pretreatment on polypropylene plastic waste on the compressive strength and splitting tensile strength of concrete, with polypropylene plastic pellets used in mixture variations of 0%, 10%, 20%, and 30%. Sand coating was employed as a pretreatment method to increase the surface roughness of the plastic pellets. The test specimens were cylindrical with dimensions of 10 × 20 cm, and the concrete was tested at 7 and 28 days. The results showed that concrete containing polypropylene plastic pellets achieved optimum performance at a 30% mixture, with a compressive strength of 28.04 MPa and a splitting tensile strength of 3.03 Mpa, representing an increase of 5% and 4.61% respectively compared to normal concrete. This study demonstrated that pretreated polypropylene plastic waste can proportionally improve both the compressive and splitting tensile strength of concrete.
