EFEKTIVITAS DAUN KECOMBRANG (ETLINGERA ELATIOR) TERHADAP CANDIDA ALBICANS MENGGUNAKAN METODE INFUSA
Background: Candida albicans is a fungus that normally lives in the human oral cavity. About 30-60% of Candida albicans grows in the oral cavity of adults and 45-65% of Candida albicans grows in the oral cavity of infants. Excessive growth of Candida albicans can cause Candidiasis. The use of conventional antifungal drugs can cause side effects such as gastrointestinal. The existence of side effects from the use of antifungal drugs encourages research to find alternative treatments. Kecombrang is one of the plants whose content has potential as an alternative antifungal material because of its phytochemical content. Aim: The purpose of this study was to determine the effectiveness of the inhibition of kecombrang leaves against the growth of Candida albicans using the infusion method at a concentration of 5%, 7.5%, 10%. Methods: Kecombrang leaves were extracted into infusion solution, then diluted by adding distilled water to become kecombrang leaf infusa with a concentration of 5%, 7.5% and 10%. The antifungal power test against Candida albicans was carried out by Kirby-Bauer disc diffusion test to determine the diameter of the resulting inhibition zone. Results: The inhibition zone was only found in the positive control, which was nystatin with an average inhibition zone of 18.32 mm. Conclusion: Kecombrang leaf infusion with concentrations of 5%, 7.5% and 10% cannot inhibit the growth of Candida albicans. Keywords: Antifungal, Candida albicans, Etlingera elatior, Infusion
