Background: Overweight is a condition where body weight exceeds the normal range due to excess fat, but it does not yet qualify as obesity. Obesity is a more severe condition characterized by excessive fat accumulation that increases the risk of health problems. Both conditions result from an imbalance between energy intake and expenditure and are becoming increasingly common among children. These conditions can affect overall health, including oral health. Dental caries is a common problem in children. The relationship between obesity and overweight with dental caries in children has shown varying results in previous studies, indicating the need for further investigation. Methods: This study used an analytic observational design with a cross-sectional approach at SDIT Al-Furqon Palembang. A total of 30 children who met the inclusion criteria were selected using purposive sampling. Data were collected through clinical examinations, including measurements of height and weight to determine nutritional status of obesity and overweight based on BMI-for-age Z-scores, as well as dental examinations using the def-t index (primary teeth) and the DMF-T index (permanent teeth). Results: The average def-t index for obese children was 4.3 and for overweight children was 4.2 (moderate category), while the DMF-T scores were 0.1 for obese children and 0.2 for overweight children (very low category). The chi-square test results showed a P-value of 0.209 (P > 0.05) for the association between obesity and overweight with the def-t index, and a P-value of 0.309 (P > 0.05) for the association with the DMF-T index. Conclusion: This study found that obesity and overweight had no influence on the dental caries condition of children aged 6–8 years at SDIT Al-Furqon Palembang.
