Legal protection of absentee land ownership rights obtained through inheritance is an important issue in agrarian law in Indonesia. The background of this study focuses on the challenges faced by heirs of absentee land, including domicile responsibilities and management of unproductive land. This study aims to understand the legal status of absentee land ownership and the protection provided to heirs in accordance with applicable regulations. The research method used a normative approach with qualitative analysis, involving legal and non-legal literature studies. The results of the study indicate that absentee land ownership inheritance is legally recognized, provided that the heirs are responsible for maintaining the domicile and actively managing the property. The legal protection provided includes recognition as legitimate heirs and a reliable dispute resolution process. However, inconsistencies between Article 10 and Article 20 of the UUPA can lead to disputes and challenges in managing absentee land that is not managed properly. The conclusion of this study states that absentee land ownership rights obtained through inheritance are considered valid regardless of where the heirs are domiciled and emphasizes the importance of revising the agrarian law to provide leniency and raise awareness of the responsibilities of absentee landowners. The recommendations include the need for legal harmonization that is more adaptive to social and economic changes, as well as strengthening mediation mechanisms to resolve conflicts. In addition, legal education for the community is also considered important to ensure public knowledge about legal certainty and sustainable land management. With these steps, it is hoped that the rights of heirs can be protected and absentee land management can be carried out effectively, supporting community welfare and social justice. Keywords: Legal Protection, Inheritance, Absentee Land.
